Hello Mustangs! Here's what happened in the Library this week! October 4-8 K-3 - Students were introduced to the California Reader Medal Program which encourages California students to read recommended books by other California students, teachers and librarians. K-3 students will read the 5 nominated picture books and will vote for their favorite. Our students votes will be sent to the CYRM organization where the author/book with the most votes will receive a special award. To date, we have read Dreamers by Yuyi Morales and All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold. 4-6 - Students were introduced to our new visual library catalog, Destiny Discover. Students learned how to search by genre or by subject as well as how to access their own library account where they can see what books they've check out, place books on hold, create a "next reads" list and add a private collection. Destiny Discover can be accessed via our Catalog & Database tab. A tutorial is available under the Resources tab and "How-To" videos.
What's Next? In grades K-2, students will identify parts of a book, types of information and begin distinguishing between non-fiction and fiction. We will enjoy the rhythm and rhyme of a Halloween picture book prior to checking out a range of non-fiction/fiction picture books that tie into units of study and personal interest. In grades 3-6, students will be introduced to our new library website, the central location for all library programs, databases and resources. Students will also enjoy a Halloween read before browsing and checking out books of interest.
