The MUS Spelling Bee is back! Students in grades 4th-6th begin the process by entering a homeroom spell off. The top two spellers of each homeroom are sent to the library for a school wide spelling bee with Mrs. Allison, Mrs. Eckhart and others to help facilitate. Emulating the Santa Barbara County Office of Education and the California State Spelling Bees, the "Spell Master" says the word, defines the word, uses it in a sentence and the repeats the word. If students have questions about the word, they are to ask at this point. Once everyone is clear on the word, students are given 20 seconds to spell their words carefully by writing them down on paper. After 2 misspelled words students may stay and continue spelling, but the judges will no longer correct their words. After 20 words have been provided, the Spell Master will ask students who have spelled 2 or more words to move to the audience area where they are invited to continue watching their peers. The Spelling Bee ends when it is clear we have the top two spellers and an alternate.
The two MUS spellers will proceed to the County Spelling Bee. We are pleased to announce that Dylan and Brandon, our top two spellers went to County this year and spelled their hearts out. Great job Mustangs! Here is a Noozhawk article following the County Spelling Bee.
